Clara Schumann” wears the mantle of a period love story with attractive distinction — touted as the tale of the feverish ménage-a-trois between 19th-century composers Clara (Martina Gedeck), her husband, Robert Schumann (Pascal Greggory), and his protege Johannes Brahms (Malik Zidi)  The film, as one might expect, contains some extraordinary musical moments.  Clara's sexist encounters and feminist issues well-illustrate the oppression faced by 19th century women, even by those of immense talent, beauty, and renown.
